Ai Fukuhara began playing table tennis at the age of 3, becoming a professional when she was 10. The following year, Ai was the youngest player ever to become a member of the Japanese national team. Ai-chan is much loved in Japan and we celebrate her today.
Ai-chan announced her retirement over the weekend saying “she is delighted to see that the next generation has grown remarkably”. She is a mum now and we send all our best wishes and thanks for all the joy she has given so many in Japan.

リオ五輪後の16年9月にリオ五輪台湾代表の江宏傑選手と結婚し、翌年ご出産されました。「この2年間で次世代の選手達が大きな成長を遂げ、日本の卓球界全体が以前より盛り上がってきた」と最後まで卓球界を代表する選手でした。お疲れ様です、愛ちゃん。これからも、ママ愛ちゃんを応援しています。
